Talk or not to talk: BJP in tight spot | | | Peerzada Ummer
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 7: The contradictory stands of the BJP high command and its Jammu and Kashmir unit vis-a-vis holding talks with separatists in Kashmir to cool down the tempers have exposed the lack of coordination among the BJP leaders. Quoting highly placed sources, various New Delhi based newspapers revealed that the Modi led government at the centre has decided to enter into a dialogue with the Kashmiri separatists including the hardline Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Geelani. This, according to reports, is being done in the backdrop of the escalating tensions that have gripped the already volatile Valley since the killing of a Hizbul militant Burhan Wani on July 8. As the unrest in the Valley entered into the 30th day, PM Modi led government, according to reports, has decided to constitute a committee that will hold dialogue with all the separatist leaders so that normalcy could be restored. However, the state unit of the BJP is coming out with the befitting opposition to any process that could engage the separatists in the dialogue process with the Government of India. Some state unit BJP leaders have come out in open in opposition of any dialogue process with the separatist camp. "The government will discuss the issue with all elected representatives and other organisations. We have informed the BJP leadership at the Centre about our stand. Separatist organizations should not be included in any discussion or deliberation as they are the main culprits," said one state BJP leader. He added that the problem is not across the Valley, but in areas near the border. "North Kashmir is peaceful, not entire Valley has been affected. There is a group of miscreants they plan to create unrest on Independence Day," he said. The hardened stand of the BJP's state unit is proving worrisome for its coalition partner PDP which has been demanding an unconditional dialogue with 'all the state holders' of the problem. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether the state's BJP unit and its high command come in the common terms and strategize the peace efforts that according to PDP are need of the hour and the only remedy. |
