Govt to offer JK Bank directorship to leading businessman to break protest calendar | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 7: In a bid to break the protest calendars being issued by the separatist leaders and to restore normal life, the government is mulling to offer some leading businessman of Kashmir induction into board of directors of the J&K Bank. Reliable sources said the plan to rope in support of business fraternity to end the hartal politics was under active consideration of the Peoples Democratic Party-Bharatiya Janta Party alliance. Even though the Kashmir Inc till now has been reluctant to disobey the separatists, the government plans to lure businessmen towards the influential chair of the J&K Bank board of directors. Sources said the government looks ahead to offer this deal to the industrialists, entrepreneurs and traders, willing to be taken onboard in the bank. "The deal will be simple. Whosoever is first to volunteer to go against the hartal politics or revolt will be taken onboard in the board of directors," the sources said. It was reliably learnt that names of atleast 10 odd businessmen are into active consideration and that the government plans to hold negotiations with them over the issue. "Someone needs to take a lead in breaking the undue hooliganism of the separatists and counter them openly. A handful of Pakistan sponsored people cannot be allowed to take entire state for a ride," said a source privy to the development. Sources said the government has resolved to break the unrest and that multiple resources were being explored to achieve this aim. Sources said the police was already willing to offer support to shopkeepers who defy hartal and open shops in Kashmir. "Our men in civvies are already offering protection in some posh localities where some shopkeepers dare to stay open," said a police official. He said in one such case the shopkeeper, who boldly kept his shop open, had complained before police that miscreants were threatening him to observe hartal. "Finally policemen in civvies laid an ambush around the shop and the moment the unruly miscreants appeared at the shop, they were overpowered and whisked away by police," the witnesses said. Restoration of law and order has emerged as a major challenge for the state government in Kashmir, on boil since July 8 when militant commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani was killed. Since then Kashmir has been witnessing continued protests; over 50 persons have died whereas over 5000 persons including 2000 security force personnel were wounded in the protests. The government is leaving no stone unturned to restore law and order by luring people towards peace. The government recently advertised posts of the Special Police Officers for all the districts of the state. |
