NC leader 'turns' separatist, criticizes SF personnel, who guard him | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 7: A senior leader of the opposition National Conference (NC) on Sunday toed the line of pro-Pak and anti-national elements and asked the Centre to surrender before them. The NC on Sunday alleged that State and Central Governments have unleashed a reign of terror in Kashmir and forces are shooting to kill. "Central Government should realize that there is absolutely no alternative to engaging with Pakistan and the Hurriyat Conference leadership as well as all other stakeholders in the Kashmir. We have seen a clear operative pattern where protesters, especially the youth, are being shot at with the intent to kill or maim," the former speaker and senior NC leader Mubarak Gul said in a statement. Reacting to NC's statement an analyst said, "It seems that National Conference has forgotten that when it was in power in 2010 more than 120 protesters were killed and curfew remained in force for more than six months. So it should stop preaching." He said, "NC is trying to appease the separatists by issuing anti-national statements and by toeing the line of separatists. It seems NC leaders are feeling choked in national mainstream. If they have to talk in the language of separatists they should leave the mainstream camp and join separatists." A Kashmir watcher said, "The Government of India (GoI) should take a serious note of the utterances of the NC leaders against the security forces. They have no right to criticize the security forces who put their lives at stake to secure their lives. The NC leaders who are castigating the security forces should be taught a lesson and their security should be withdrawn." "National Conference had submitted a memorandum to the visiting Union Home Minister asking for an immediate cessation of lethal force against protesters in the Valley as well as a time-bound accountability of the security forces and the State Police in cases where excessive force had been used," Gul said. A politician said, "No one seems bothered about the plight of security personnel who are facing the unruly mobs and militants. More than 2000 security force personnel have been injured in the ongoing rest. Two policemen also have died but so-called mainstream politicians, who enjoy official accommodation, official salary and perks have not uttered a word in the favour of security personnel handling the unrest. They (mainstream) politicians should stop acting like parrots of separatists and behave responsibly. Kashmir is witnessing tough times as Pakistan sponsored militants and separatists are calling the shots. Need of the hour is to counter their propaganda rather than becoming a tool in their hands." |
