MGNREGA labourers' wages unpaid for 2 years

Poocnh, Aug 7: Mahtama Gandhi National Rural Gurantee Act labourers have not been paid their wages for more than two years sources said here today.
Sources said the district has 11 panchayat blocks and the Govt had announced a liability of Rs 40 crore for the year 2015-16. An amount of Rs 35 crore was released followed by news item carried by this newspaper. The wager of labourers were supposed to be paid for the year 2013-14 to 2015-16 which amounts to Rs 7.50 crore. The remaining amount Rs 5 crore of the total liability and the wages of labours is said to be a liability of Rs 12.50 crore in total. The labourers have urged the concerned BDOs' to release their payments as their families were going through the financial crisis sources said, adding there were some labourers who have by now passed away. Their families had to face many financial crisis but the concerned Block Development officers' does not cooperate with them hence feel disillusioned.
There had been several major developmental works taken by the district administration which include culverts, roads, drains and tile flooring on several paths in the district. The labourers have been working for the last two years but were not paid wages for their work, sources said.
When contacted Assistant Commissioner Development Poonch Basharat Ahmed told Early Times that labourers' wages have been paid 80 to90 percent. When asked their liability stands at Rs. 7.50 crore, the ACD said that there have been many self styled workers who got some how fake documents prepared for works which actually have not been done and submitted same to the department. After scrutizing the documents most of the documents were found fake, the ACD added.
Meanwhile, Mendhar youth club chairman advocate Nadeem Khan urged the concerned authorities to release the payment of labourers as their families were facing financial crises.
