Majority community too fed up with constant shutdowns | KPs postpone religious functions, marriages in Valley | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Aug 7: Due to ongoing turmoil in Kashmir Valley various KP organizations have postponed the religious and social functions to be performed in Kashmir Valley during this month and shifted the venue of these functions to Jammu. The annual; religious function to be held at famous Mata Ragniya Sheila Asthapan , Raithan in Central Kashmir district of Badgam has been postponed owing to ongoing unrest and mob violence in Kashmir by the Management Committee of the Asthapan. The annual religious function was being held every year at this famous shrine by the Pandits of the Budgam district and a large number of people who have migrated to Jammu after the mass exodus of Pandits in Valley in 1989-90 used to visit the Valley to participate in the religious function every year. The shrine has same significance for the Kashmiri Pandits which the Mata Kheerbhawani temple of Tulmulla in Central district of Kashmir Ganderbal has. On the occasion of Sharavan Ashtami every year a Maha Yagya is being solemnized at the holy shrine and preparations for the function are being made a month in advance as the large number of devotees visit the shrine not only from Kashmir Valley but Jammu also to pay obeisance to Goddess there. This year too the auspicious day falls on August 11. But the Asthapan Committee owing to uncertain conditions in Valley has this time decided to postpone the religious function at the holy shrine and the venue of the same was shifted to Mata Sharika Asthapan Poni Chak, Jammu where instead of Havan, Pusparchana will be performed by the devotees. The other religious functions too have been either been postponed due to unrest in Kashmir by various religious bodies or have been converted to a symbolic event. Even some KP families who had to solemnize the marriage ceremonies of their wards have also shifted the venue to Jammu now. According to sources the members of majority community who too had arranged the marriage ceremonies of their wards have postponed them till normalcy returns to Kashmir. This way many families and members of business community have suffered a heavy loss due to ongoing unrest in Kashmir. Sources said that the people in Valley are so fed up with the present unrest that many families of majority community have shifted to Jammu and other parts of country to save their children from the trap of anti social and anti national elements. |
