Anita's journey into world of melody fetches Jammu top recognition | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 7: Jammu is a land of warriors, writers, actors and singers and here people irrespective of different faith and religion uphold brotherhood and promote culture of the land in true perspective. The long untiring journey of 46 years into the art of singing was taken up by a famous singer Anita Sharma 's whose struggle and passion in the field is always undeterred. Rampaul Dogra a freelance journalist from Early Times visited her residence to know more about her and her flaming passion for the art. Anita Sharma was born on 1/4/1949 to Pandit Dhani Ram at Link Road ,Pucca Danga Jammu in the same locality where legendary singer and actor KL Sehgal was born. At the tender age of 12 years she started singing in domestic functions and marriages. Her voice was always attractive and was loved by her friends. As times moved ahead she was admitted at Gurmat Kanya Pathsala, Fattu Chugan Jammu for schooling. She attended almost every cultural functions and all most of times fetched first prize in singing. It is also fact that at that period girls used to live under social restrictions but somehow Anita managed to carry on with her singing due to her family support . When she joined at Govt Women College, she found more opportunities coming her way in singing and she labored to put herself at state level competition where she picked up many other prizes in singing competitions. She completed her B.Music under late Dy Director Kavi Rattan, and M.Music under Dr.Jagdish Sharma whom she gives credit in shaping her career. In the year 1970 she gave her first performance on Radio Kashmir Jammu wherein she becames B+ grade singer. Apart from radio she performed on Doordarshan for many times. Speaking, she tells that she toured length to breadth of India for performance and attended many shows at different places. She has a fan following of million listeners for her melodious songs. She sings in Dogri, Hindi,Punjabi, Kashmiri language which gives audience ample happiness and entertainment . The prominent writers whose poetry received her heart winning voice are -K S Madukar, Tara Smailpuri, Yash Sharma, Padma Sachdeva,Kishan Smailpuri, N D Jamwal, Dr.Anil Ganeshwer, Brij Mohan, Rattan Bharatwaj,Mohan Singh besides Achal Singh(Jagir). Anita also worked as music teacher in Nagbani school between 1991 to 2009. She is married to Rajinder Kumar Thappa who retired as senior scientist from IIIM. "After marriage there was tremendous support to me from my in- laws as nobody stopped me for singing which was very good for me ,"says Anita She also explained about her family set up that both her sons are engineers and well settled and married, one is serving in Poland and another at Pune . To sum up, Anita Sharma who threw light on her over two and half decades long signing career is continuously entertaining people though radio and other medium and that is why she was given honour by Radio Kashmir Jammu and JKACCL jointly in ongoing Jhar-okha programme recently. |
