MOs run Trauma Centre Khellani as H&ME deptt sanctions no staff | | | Bijay Charak
Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 18: The only Trauma Centre (Khellani) of Doda district is run by Medical Officers (MOs) despite a year having passed after its building was completed. However, the Health and Medical Education department has yet to sanction the requisite manpower for this hospital. Reliable sources of health department informed Early Times that improving trauma care services along the Highways Government of India (GoI) has launched scheme capacity building for developing Trauma Care facilities on Highways with an aim that no trauma victim has been transported for more than 50 kilometers. J&K government implemented this scheme and sanctioned around 10 trauma centres across state in which one was sanctioned for district Doda but now Trauma Centre Khellani still is not achieving the objectives behind their establishment mainly because of non-serious approach of government as well as department concern towards making them functional in real sense. It is pertinent to mention here that Level-II Trauma Centre is supposed to provide 24-hour immediate coverage by general surgeons as well as coverage by the specialties of orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology and critical care. They further said that the higher authority of health department seems to be least concerned about the functioning of a much-needed Trauma Centre here even as the construction work of this building was completed previous year but till date the department has failed to sanction sufficient staff in here, at present only two Medical Officers and two paramedical staff cater the hospital. "Already delay in its construction is notwithstanding recurring transfer of trauma patients, to district hospital Doda or Sub district hospital Batote, many of whom die in transit", they said, adding that the establishment of said Trauma Centre would be of crucial help to trauma patients of district Doda and Kishtwar. "At that time all the patients being referred to district hospital and sub district hospitals. If we have a level two trauma centre in Khellani, it would minimize trauma casualties if it is fully functional so we need trauma specialists to handle trauma cases if government really means the business otherwise having such centre won't serve any purpose", sources said. |
