Govt refutes reports, admin says 'rumours' hampering steps towards normalcy | vDesperate NC spreading canards on fuel supply to Kashmir | | Early Times Report jammu, Aug 18: In what can be seen as typically behaving on proverbial adding fuel to fire, principle opposition party National Conference has started spreading canards on fuel supply to Kashmir which it 'authoritatively' says has been curbed. The statement from NC with choicest words to hit out at the government has come despite a statement from the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir refuting the 'reports' of stopping fuel supply to Kashmir. As the government is trying to handle the issue of fuel supply from oil companies to Kashmir Valley deftly while assuring them safety and security to the tankers, NC lost no time in spreading the rumours that fuel supply has been disrupted, without ascertaining the truth about the issue, said a senior bureaucrat in the administration. Such statements from the opposition or any politician are only hampering the work of the government and administration in particular to restore normalcy in the Valley, he said while lamenting the statement from NC's chief spokesperson Junaid Matto. There has been some disruption in supply but it has in no way affected the consumers directly nor is there dearth of the fuel in the petrol pumps, said the officer adding that some cases of disruption were driven due to the fact that oil tankers have been facing attacks by the violent protestors in Valley. Opposition, mainly NC is overlooking these facts and instead of appealing mobs to desist from attacking the oil tankers, it was prompted into issuing baseless statement on fuel supply having been stopped to Valley. However, the Divisional Commissioner has strongly refuted the reports as mere rumours contending that reputed oil companies like Hindustan Petroleum, Bharat Petroleum and Indian Oil have communicated in writing that their tankers are being attacked in the Kashmir valley which is why some problem has arisen. Div Comm's statement has further added that 28 tankers have been damaged in attacks by violent mobs and it has become difficult for them to operate amid turbulent situation in the Valley, something which NC and other leaders should verify before rushing into sweeping statements that only fuel to the fire. The big relief however remains that the oil companies have been assured of adequate security by the Government in order to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply to Kashmir. NC spokesperson while using choicest expressions like 'brazen and shameless' for the PDP-BJP government on one hand and strongest words for the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti like 'her appetite for tyranny' in declaring that 'curbs' have been announced on fuel supply to Valley ,has even gone on to the extent of spreading canards like government has adopted what it terms 'systemic and well planned policy of an embargo on essential commodities' to Valley. |
