Dy CM gives deaf ear, crores of rupees squandered | Lift Irrigation, Irrigation canals run dry resulting in loss to agricultural land | | Early Times Report
Billawar, Aug 22: "Defunct Lift Irrigation projects and Irrigation canals in entire Tehsil Billawar have turned into dryness due to lethargic attitude of the officials working with Irrigation department," block president peoples' Democratic Party, PDP Jatinder Singh Badwal today expressed concern and informed that crores of rupees have been spent to promote irrigation sector but nothing has been done at ground level. In a press communiqué, PDP leaders alleged Irrigation department especially Sub Division Billawar for not implementing the schemes properly at ground level to benefit the farmers. Jatinder Singh PDP constituency president said, "Irrigation department has to provide water supply according to the schemes but officers do not perform their duty efficiently." He said hundreds of hector agricultural lands affected due to shortage of water supply in canals like Billawar Canal, Seri Muni, Dadwara, Durang, Dharmani, Pallan, Parag and Rajawalta etc. He said government spends huge money to construct Lift Irrigation projects and artificial canals to provide water supply but all got dry due to insincerity of officers. Crores of rupees have been allegedly squandered as all projects are defunct and useless for actual beneficiaries and added that government allocate grants for repair and maintenance of canals but all canals in Billawar tehsils are in worse and depleting condition. Dozens of construction works are being allotted to influential without any tenders," he alleged. He said, the matter was highlighted before Dy. CM Dr Nirmal Singh but he also gave deaf hearing to the voice. Today deputation of Billawar town and surrounding areas called on Concerned Irrigation Officers at Kathua who ensured to make the system smooth wherein both Lift Irrigation and Irrigation through canals would be done soon. The farmers under the supervision of PDP leader appealed Chief Minister of J&K to facilitate the farmers and implement the irrigation schemes properly. |
