BJP leaders go into hiding, fail to organize Tiranga Yatra in Kashmir | Party 'surrenders' before separatist forces | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 22: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) carried out the Tiranga Yatra across the length and breadth of the country, but the party leaders could not muster courage to carry out one such rally in Kashmir valley. Failure of the BJP leaders to carry out the Tiranga Yatra in Kashmir has given an impression that the party has 'surrendered' before the separatist forces in the valley. The BJP leaders have been maintaining that stern action needs to be taken against the separatists, but they themselves have failed to take a small step in organizing the Tiranga Yatra in Kashmir. Both the national as well as local leaders of BJP did not have the courage to hold Tiranga Yatra in Kashmir. The holding of this yatra was more important this time around since Kashmir is on boil following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani on July 8. The party leaders seem to be busy in issuing statements from Jammu or New Delhi while doing 'nothing' on ground in the valley. The state based leaders of BJP would in the recent past hold functions even on trivial issues in the valley, but these people have failed to come up to the expectations with regard to the holding of Tiranga Yatra in Kashmir. The BJP leaders of Jammu & Kashmir more so those belonging to valley have gone into hiding and they have been rendered 'not reachable' in the present circumstances. It would in place to mention here that when militancy was at its peak in Kashmir, senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi hoisted the tri-colour at Lal Chowk near clock tower (ghanta ghar) on January 26, 1992. The incumbent Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was also present on the occasion. The BJP leaders of the present era could have drawn an inspiration from the same however they could not do the same. There is a strong feeling inside the party brass that the people who did not deserve to be given some position were appointed on top posts. On the other hand educated youngsters who joined the BJP were left out and were disrespected. Some of the former militants joined the BJP and ironically some of these people were given the mandate in 2014 assembly elections. Disturbing developments that have taken place within the party over the past couple of years has led to 'disillusionment' among the people who joined the BJP with great enthusiasm. The party as on date is paying a heavy price for the same with most of the workers and activists and even leaders not ready to propagate the party programme to the common masses. The present crisis has resulted into a situation where the BJP seems to be non-existent in the Kashmir valley. It would need a miracle to revive the party in the valley and by the time that happens, BJP is bound to lose ground in Kashmir. One can only wait and watch the things as they unfold in Kashmir more so with respect to BJP. |
