Despite being largest party, state leadership playing to 'tunes' of Omar …! | Has Congress surrendered completely before NC…? | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 22: Has state unit of Congress completely surrendered before National Conference leadership….? If whisper in the political circles and sentiment among the workers of the Congress is any credible parameter, it certainly has submitted its political existence to erstwhile ally in power NC. From attending the all party opposition parties meeting in Srinagar to marathon meetings in New Delhi, Congress 'netas' are at beck and call of NC working president and playing to his 'tunes' and political 'tones' centered around Kashmir situation. Sources said a faction of Congress in the state is nourishing a grouse and annoyance at what they feel PCC chief and some other leaders having conducted themselves in the name of opposition's peace initiative for Kashmir. Not only the senior leaders of the party from both the regions but workers in general are looking upon this 'exercise' as playing subservient role to NC, sources said. Congress despite being largest opposition party should either have taken this initiative itself or at all not followed the 'instructions' of Omar Abdullah like they have been doing for the last few days, sources said while describing the sentiment within the party. The workers and a sizable number of senior leaders are of the view that the PCC leadership should not have dragged himself on mere call of Omar Abdullah who is calling shots in all the meetings by keeping his point of view on Kashmir situation rather emphatically as on a couple of occasions it is the Congress which has become target of severe criticism as being responsible for the political trouble in Kashmir. Moreover, Congress' active participation in so called opposition delegation is drawing flak also for the reason that the party has its huge political base in Jammu region. No matter all the parties have concern for Kashmir unrest, Congress' active role in sync with NC with most of the leaders from Jammu I being seen as unwarranted inviting criticism from within the party itself, sources further said. These leaders have not much to do with Kashmir crisis and they should have rather focused on Jammu which is their main constituency. Sources said the political circles are likening it to the role of Congress when it was ally in the NC led government in the past when the party and its ministers played second fiddle in almost all the matters and key issues in state during that period. Now, while in opposition the party leadership has surrendered before NC and is following full on instructions by Omar Abdullah who is only crediting political scores to his party by doing this exercise, notwithstanding the fact he has managed to take all others on board. |
