Only one-way traffic restored on Kashmir highway, tunnel closed at 1800 hrs | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 1: One-way traffic was restored on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway after remaining suspended since early this morning due to landslides, triggered by overnight rain. However, only vehicles, stranded at different places on the highway will be allowed to ply and no fresh vehicle will be allowed from any side, a traffic police official told . He said the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway and historic Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region are through for traffic. He said traffic was suspended on the highway due to landslides, triggered by rain at Kharee. However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintainance of the highway have pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the landslides and put through the highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country. He said the highway was put through after the BRO partly repaired the damaged portion of the road this afternoon. Only one-way traffic is allowed at the damaged portion of the road to avoid any accident, he said. However, he said, only stranded vehicles on both sides of the highway will be allowed to proceed towards their respective destinations. No fresh vehicle will be allowed as the Jawhar tunnel is closed from 1800 hrs till next morning everyday. |
