Finally Govt comes to rescue of entrepreneur, gets compensation | ET Impact | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 1: Government has finally came to the rescue of an entrepreneur who provided his all the foam mattresses and wooden planks to volunteers during the September 2014 floods. It was almost a 2 year battle for this young business man who had become bankrupt after his foam mattresses and wooden planks were pressed into service during those devastating floods. The Government on Monday approved 50 % of his relief money and rest is yet to be approved. The State Executive Council (SEC) meeting had already approved the case of Nayeem Ahmad Khuroo some 6 months back. The meeting was cancelled several times in past which was to be chaired by the chief secretary. Nayeem Ahmad Khuroo a resident of Naik Bagh Nowgam, Srinagar had emptied his synthetic foam mattress shop and godown just to ensure people were saved from drowning during the September 2014 floods. In addition of providing foam mattresses to several rescue teams, volunteers and Govt officials, Nayeem also provided as many as 150 wooden planks to different rescue teams and individuals during that disaster. The authorities right from Patwari to Deputy Commissioner Srinagar have authenticated the fact that Nayeem Ahmad Khuroo the owner of Star Wood Dealers and Nandini Mattresses did a heroic work and lost all his stocks, but the Government is hardly bothered to come to his rescue now. His case was sent to Chief Minister's office by the DC Srinagar and the top officials in CM's office also authenticated his case. The final call which is to be taken by State Executive Council (SEC) headed by Chief Secretary finalized Feb 5 as the date of the meeting, but once again the meeting was cancelled due to unknown reasons said Nayeem Ahmad Khuroo while talking to Early Times. "I was hopeful that SEC meeting would be held on Feb 5 at Jammu, but it got cancelled and I think it is my bad luck. I appeal Governor N N Vohra ji to look into my case " he added. As scores of volunteers and brave-hearts were in helpless condition and could not carry out rescue for want of boats and other logistics on September 7, Khuroo had offered them his stocks (foam mattresses, wooden planks) which floated in the waters and these mattresses were put in use by them at Naik Bagh, Nowgam, Alochi Bagh, Kenihama areas. These items helped to rescue more than 300 people from the floods. Pertinent to mention that Early Times had carried a detailed reports about this case from last one and a half year. Nayeem Ahmad Khuroo while talking to Early Times has thanked it for coming to his rescue. Reputed national daily had highlighted the pathetic condition of Nayeem Ahmad Khuroo more than a year back in its all the editions on the front page. "I had lost all hopes as I lost everything. The landlord had thrown me out. My business has collapsed. I sold my motorcycle, car and my mothers gold ornaments just to repay the loans etc. I had also not insured my business unit. This would have never happened had I not volunteered myself during those flood. I am thankful to State Government, especially CM, Education Minister, FC Relief and Rehabilitation B B Vyas and Early Times who supported my cause" said Khuroo. |
