Police to file FIR against Hurriyat (G) for 'threatening' Sajjad Lone
9/1/2016 11:44:51 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 1: The Jammu and Kashmir Police are contemplating to lodge FIR against the Hurriyat G led by Syed Ali Geelani for "threatening" separatist-turned-minister Sajjad Gani Lone.
With the Sanat Nagar market in Srinagar functioning normally in open defiance of the protest calendar as issued by separatist leadership from time to time, the Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani had launched a veiled attack on its bête noire Sajjad terming him "Political Guru" of such "traitor traders."
Unnerved by the attitude of the Sanat Nagar market, which falls outside the private residence of Sajjad Gani Lone, the Hurriyat said all such activities were under scanner and those who don't adhere to the Hurriyat calendar would be wiped away along with their "Gurus."
"Hurriyat has taken a strong note of defying the joint leadership programme in some parts of uptown Srinagar especially Sanat Nagar Byepass and adjoining areas. These shopkeepers are once again cautioned that for how long the saffronised political opportunists will safeguard them? At last they have to mingle with their own people. So they should not act as traitors, otherwise they along with their political gurus on who's behest they dare to sabotage the ongoing movement, will be wiped away like a straw," the spokesman said.
It is for the first time since Sajjad, a separatist- turned- mainstream leader, became minister last year that Hurriyat has launched a veiled attack on him.
Observers who went through the statement issued by the Hurriyat said it was a veiled warning for Sajjad. Source said police has started probing if there was really a threat to Sajjad, who has been BJP's key ally in the ruling coalition.
It is pertinent to mention that Sajjad Lone and Geelani have been on daggers drawn for many years. Though after Sajjad formally joined mainstream politics, Geelani would prefer silence on his former colleague, this time his party has reacted sharply.
"This is clear that by 'Political Guru', Hurriyat is referring to Sajjad Lone because no other such face lives in the vicinity in Sanat Nagar. Though his brother Bilal Lone lives in the vicinity, he happens to be separatist, so the obvious threat is to him(Sajjad)," said an official pleading anonymity.
Sources said the police was discussing as to whether or not to issue FIR against Geelani and that Sajjad would be taken into confidence before taking any such decision.
Despite repeated attempts, Sajjad Lone could not be contacted for comments.
