Stray cattle menace claims 2 lives in Jagti township | | | Early Times Report
jammu, Sept 1: The growing cattle menace in Jagti township has so far claimed two lives, adding to the woes of people residing in the camp. According to the camp inmates, two people were killed in the township during the past some time due to the growing cattle menace, but the authorities had taken no steps to check the same. The camp inmates feel scared as they can't move freely in the camp due to cattle menace. The children and the old become safe target of the stray cattle which keep on roaming in the township round-the- clock. Over a month back, a youth was killed by a stray bull in the township, said refugee leader Raju Sehgal. He said the poor family was in shock since then and despite the repeated pleas the authorities had failed to seek the assistance of Jammu Municipal Corporation or Veterinary Department to lift the stray cattle from the area. He said about two days back, cattle dung was scattered in the middle of the road at a particular spot in the area. While trying to cross that spot, a motorcyclist slipped and sustained severe injuries as a result of which he died later, he claimed. He also expressed concern over the poor condition of the Jagti hospital, alleging that it faced shotage of medicines. Bansi Lal, another camp leader, said the growing cattle menace had been a cause of concern and parents were worried about their school going children. He said the relief authorities had neither deputeed watch and ward staff in the camp nor erected gates and fenced the township properly to stop the entry of stray cattle. "The government claims it to be a satellite township, but it's condition is not better than a slum at present," he added. He warned to launch an agitation if immediate steps were not taken to deal with the cattle menace.
