Now, one officer to be responsible for all facilities on train

New Delhi, Sept 1 In an effort to make rail travel comfortable, railways has made Train Superintendent responsible for all facilities in the train such as cleanliness or food to ensure passengers are not forced to run from one agency to other if she has any complaint.
At present different agencies are to be approached for different types of facilities provided in the train.
The pilot project is being launched initially for Rajdhani Express trains originating from Delhi area.
Now, passengers can also book retiring room on hourly basis.
Currently, booking of retiring room is being done for the fixed slots of 12 hours and 24 hours with fixed tariff for the respective slot.
According to new policy, the retiring room can be booked for the minimum three hours and maximum up to 48 hours and hourly booking is not allowed from 9pm to 9am.
Passengers can also opt for an insurance cover of up to Rs 10 lakh on booking a train ticket online by paying less than one rupee.
Railways launched the scheme under which a traveller booking a train ticket through the IRCTC website will be able to opt for travel insurance cover for a premium of 92 paise only.
The new facility will be available to all passengers, excluding those travelling by suburban trains who book ticket online. It will be available to every class-sleeper, 3AC etc of passengers having confirmed and RAC tickets.
The cover will not be applicable for children upto 5 years of age and foreign citizens.
The scheme offers travellers or nominees or legal heirs a compensation of Rs 10 lakh in the event of death or total disability, Rs 7.5 lakh for partial disability, upto Rs 2 lakh for hospitalisation expenses and Rs 10,000 for transportation of mortal remains from the place of a train accident or where an untoward incident, including terrorist attack, dacoity, rioting, shootout or arson, occurs. However, no refund of the premium will be given in case of cancellation of the ticket.
The scheme is being implemented by IRCTC in partnership with ICICI Lombard General Insurance, Royal Sundaram General Insurance and Shriram General Insurance selected through a bidding process.
