Forest officer 'facilitates' land grabbing by locals | | | M S Nazki
Early Times Report
Poonch, Sept 1: A forest officer is alleged to be facilitating land grabbing by locals in Mendhar area of the district by allowing them to raise concrete structures on the forest land. The forest officer, who is posted at Mendhar, had retrieved over 50 kanals of forest land from the locals, who had raised many concrete structures on it in compartment No 166 of Ari village some time ago. The concrete structures were demolished and the land was handed over to forest department, official sources said. The demarcation of the land was later deliberately delayed by the forest officer to help people to grab it again, sources alleged. At the time of demarcation, the patwari concerned declared the land as Gair Mumkin Jhar. When contacted, Poonch DC M H Malik said an inquiry would be initiated against the concerned forest officer. "No one is allowed to grab the forest land," he said and added the forest land grabbers would be dealt with a heavy hand. Meanwhile, people of the area have urged the forest minister and the chief conservator of forests to take action against the forest officer and shift him from the area with immediate effect.
