Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 4: Life line of Jammu city mini busses (matadors) no doubt are boon to this city but their court jester (drivers) causing chaos in the city. The gridlock on city roads generated by these vehicles as they stop wherever they feel like without any hesitation as they are king of the road. Although the secretariat is moved to summer capital still our city roads have severe traffic congestion. Several complaints of over speeding, fleecing and ear-splitting music blaring from these matadors have been reported but the traffic officials seems to be sleeping as they are greased by the powerful and strong matador lobby. The overloading in these vehicles also leads to increased cases of eve teasing, molestation and harassment but no one is ready to look into these issues despite being raised several times. Sadhu Ram a local resident alleged that the local matadors and mini-buses have become a peril hindering the normal movement of vehicular traffic. He also asked as to why the matador drivers and conductors are not in uniform as per the government rules. There are no particular stopping, scheduled timing, they keep waiting for passengers, people are forced to cling to the doors", he said. Over speeding and racing can lead altercations, assault and collision that result in serious physical injuries or even death as one can see the past example of a innocent girl who lost her life due to racing between the matadors to get the passengers said by a local shopkeeper. When contacted ARTO Flying Squad, Rashi Datta said that the concerned authority was taking action in this regards and also challaned the violators. She further said number of drives held to aware the drivers about the issues |
