Official apathy hampers completion of Bana Singh Stadium | PVC recipient blames Kashmir centric leadership | | Vinod Sharma Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 4: Though the Union government has recently announced Rs. 200 Crores for sports activities in state but the state government has totally forgotten the Bana Singh stadium of RS Pura, which was named after Param Vir Chakra recipient Bana Singh of RS Pura. After nearly three decades, the stadium is still incomplete and at present it looks like a meadow with large green grass and cattle roaming there freely, narrating the official's neglect. The PVC recipient, Bana Singh, has blamed the Kashmir based leadership, responsible for the pathetic condition of stadium, besides has left all hopes of soon improvement of its condition. Bana Singh blamed both Union as well as state government for its Kashmir centric approach responsible for incomplete stadium, named after him and has not started feeling harassed due to negligent behavior of government. "For the last many years, I have been approaching the state as well as Union government for the development of stadium. Even I personally met several ministers to complete the stadium but nothing has changed", PVC recipient Bana Singh said, adding that the Ministers only visited the stadium for a photo session and gave only assurances but nothing concrete was done by them. The soldiers sacrificed their lives for nation. They stay in very harsh conditions along borders, on glaciers in 20 degree temperature or below for the safety of our nation but our leaders never realize such sacrifices, Bana Singh said. Criticizing the politicians across party lines, Bana Singh further said on 15th of August, they had planned to celebrate the day in Bana Singh stadium but when they reached the stadium, it was like a pond full of water, with large grown bushes and grass in every nook and corner of the stadium, which spoke volumes of negligence of the state government, which was responsible for pathetic condition of stadium. "In the last three decades, many political parties come in power in Center as well in State but they only gave assurances, which were merely announcements and nothing more", Bana Singh rued and said that in future there were not any possibilities of completion of the stadium in near future. Pertinently, in year 2010 the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had announced Rs. Fifty Lakhs for providing facilities for Bana Singh stadium but it is still unknown as whether the funds were released or not. Secretary of Sports Council W.A Parray said that presently he was unaware of the matter and would inform only after getting the details from the officials concerned about the status of funds and its development. He further assured that the stadium would be completed soon. |
