Mainstream politicians 'glorify' separatists, APD faces humiliation | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sep 4: The visit of All Party Delegation to Kashmir failing to break the ice has sent the advocates of separatists into tizzy as separatists didn't show any inclination towards holding talks with the APD members. Since the day unrest has gripped Kashmir, almost all the opposition parties, including National Conference, Congress, CPI (M), Peoples Democratic Front and others had been demanding that separatists in Kashmir should be taken on board to resolve the Kashmir crisis. "By giving undue importance to Geelani and company mainstream parties dented their credibility and proved that elected representatives have no say in Kashmir," said an analyst. He said, "Mainstream politicians not taking any initiative to resolve the present Kashmir crisis has glorified the separatists and have declared them as the only leaders in Kashmir. The MLAs rather than advocating the cause of separatists should have cut across the party lines and should have at least made an attempt to reach out to common masses. Had they done so they could have been in a position to negotiate with the people directly rather than asking the APD leaders to knock at the doors of separatists, who are at the beck and call of Pakistan. The mainstream politicians chose to hide behind their security personnel and remained confined in their cozy rooms. They (mainstream) politicians not doing anything provided opportunity to separatists to have field day." A Kashmir watcher said, "The need of the hour is that mainstream politicians should put their act together and run towards their constituencies where people voted for them. The APD, which visited Valley mainly on the insistence of opposition parties in Kashmir, has been humiliated by the separatists at the behest of Pakistan. These separatists have to be given a befitting reply by working towards restoring normalcy in Kashmir. The Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has been insisting that only 5% people are out on streets. It's high time for the people who matter to get united and restore normalcy for the sake of 95% Kashmir population which has been taken hostage by handful of miscreants." The senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad while talking to reporters on the stand taken by separatists, said, "We had said that if anyone comes to meet us, we will welcome them and listen to them. Won't deny meeting anyone. But nobody turned up even after the invitation was sent by Chief Minister of the state. We would have been very happy if they had come. In personal capacity, some leaders chose to meet them (separatists). This was not disclosed in all party meet." Despite separatists refusing to meet the APD leaders Chairman Peoples Democratic Front Hakeem Yaseen said that dialogue should be held with all the separatist leaders particularly Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Yaseen Malik, Shabir, Shah and Nayeem Ahmad Khan. He even termed Pakistan an important player in Kashmir conflict. An analyst said, "When discussion over Kashmir situation was held in Rajya Sabha last month all the Parliamentarians unanimously agreed upon the fact that JK is an integral part of India and borders cannot be redrawn. They parliamentarians made a sincere effort to reach out to separatists but they didn't respond. Now politicians should take a back seat and allow security agencies to handle the situation." |
