Protests continue, over 200 wounded in Kashmir | DC Office Shopian torched, residence of MLA Tral attacked | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 4: Massive protests continued across Kashmir even as the All Party Delegation of Member of Parliaments arrived in the Valley on a 2-day visit today reports said. Clashes erupted in Vessu area of Qazigund in south Kashmir as soon Basit Ahangar, a college student was laid to rest amid intense anti-India sloganeering. Earlier, thousands of people attended Basit's funeral prayers, who was killed in force's action last evening. Soon after the funeral, protesters hit the streets and clashed with government forces who fired tear gas shells on them resulting in injuries to many of the protesters. Over 100 people were injured in the clashes between people and government forces in clashes in Shopian. The mobs set ablaze a newly constructed building of DC office Shopian. Police said "mob attacked and set ablaze mini secretariat Shopian. The fire was brought under control, however, the structure suffered partial damage." Trouble erupted this morning when government forces including police and paramilitary Jawans foiled an anti-national rally in Penjoora village of Shopian. According to Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, ten incidents of stone pelting were reported from Srinagar, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Awantipora and Sopore. At these places, mobs assembled on the roads and attempted to disturb the normal traffic and movement of people by pelting stones on vehicles and later on at police and security force deployments, the police said. "There was no curfew in the valley except some areas of Srinagar falling under the Police Stations of Khanyar, Safakadal, Nowhatta, Rainawari and M. R Gunj," the police said. "In Tral a huge mob pelted stones on the police and security forces. Some of the miscreants when chased away entered in a Ziyarat and again started pelting stones from the compound of the Ziyarat. Police is cautiously handling the situation," police said. Amid clashes and anti-national protests in Tral town, protesters attacked the residence of PDP leader and MLA Tral, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah. Reports said protesters pelted stones on Mushtaq's residence at Tral bala. Earlier, people in large numbers defying government restrictions tried to assemble at Eidgah however forces swung into action and fired tear smoke shells to disperse them. |
