Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 04: Following the death of a woman due to burns, which she received at the residence of her in-laws at Nagrota, Uttar Vaihni, near here today, her parents and other family members protested at the GMCH and allegedly manhandled her husband. While protesting, they resorted to sloganeering and alleged that she was being tortured by her in-laws for the past some time. Police sources said Madhu Sharma, wife of Rakesh Kumar, who was alleged to have set herself ablaze by pouring kerosene oil on her, was admitted to the GMCH by her in-laws in a serious condition. She later succumbed to her injuries. Soon thereafter, her parents and other relatives, who had gathered in the hospital, held a demonstration and also manhandled her husband. The timely police intervention, however, saved the situation from taking an ugly turn. They alleged that Madhu, who 'has a 10-month-old daughter', was being tortured by her in-laws for the past some time. Based on their allegations, police had started questioning her -in-laws.
