Early Times Report
SAMBA, Sept 4: To invite the attention of All Parties Parliamentary Delegation (APPD) towards their plight, West Pakistani refugees today held a massive rally at Swankha Morh near Vijaypur.
The refugees in thousands assembled at Swankha Morh under the leadership of Labba Ram Gandhi and demanded grant of citizenship rights. The protestors raising slogans against both State and Central governments alleged that they are facing human rights violation since 1947 as they have been deprived of citizenship rights as well as right to vote, but neither the Central government nor the State government all these years bothered to deliver justice to them. They alleged that political parties had befooled them for the last nearly 69 years.
Gandhi said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is presently talking of Baluchistan and referring to human rights violations there, but he does not bother to look into the problems of the West Pak refugees in J&K. ``It seems that present BJP Government is also going to treat us in the same manner in which Congress exploited us for decades together'', he added.
Labba Ram Gandhi, said that the West Pakistan refugees had migrated from Pakistan during 1947 and settled in different states of the country including Jammu and Kashmir. He said that West Pakistani refugees settled in other States of India have full fundamental rights granted under Indian Constitution, but those living in J&K, don't even have right to cast their votes in Assembly elections, which is a grave human rights violation.
"The All Parties Parliamentary Delegation which is in the State should take cognizance of this and instead of Kashmiris these are the West Pak refugees who are facing the human rights violation through the hands of the government'', he added.
Gandhi said the West Pak refugees have even been deprived of Prime Minister's Beti Bachao Beti Padao and other schemes as our children don't possess the State subjects. ``We have not been given the benefit of even a single scheme like Udhan, admission in professional colleges under PM's scholarship scheme as for all these schemes the State subjects are demanded which we don't have'', he added.
The refugee leader said even in recruitment to BSF recently our children who mostly belong to SC categories can't apply under the said category as State Government is not issuing the category certificates to us on the pretext that we are not the State subjects. He sought the immediate intervention of Parliamentary delegation towards the pressing issues confronting the refugees.
