Govt employee booked under sedition charges, several go underground | Curfew relaxed for 2 hrs | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report
Kishtwar Sept 26: Continuing with their raids at the residences of those who have been booked under sedition charges for raising anti-national and pro-Pakistan slogans on the eve of eid on September 13 last, an employee of sheep and animal husbandry department was picked up from his residence here late last night. At least three dozen government employees are alleged to have taken part in the anti-national activities in the town. As all of them were found missing from their residences during the night long police raids, they were said to have gone underground, police sources said. The arrested employee was identified as Ajaiz Ahmed Kelam, son of Nazir Ahmad Kelam of Fareedia Mohallah, Kishtwar. He was presently posted in Marwah block of the district. Police said Kelam was arrested without much resistance by locals. The huge presence of CRPF, police and SSB kept the people at bay from the raiding parties. At least 6 persons were said to have sustained minor injuries in the police action. "Yes, there is a list of over three dozen employees with police, some of whom are also named in FIRs. We are scrutinizing and analyzing the level of involvement of each employee and accordingly they will be booked and arrested," said senior police officer. He said that no guilty person would be spared and raids would continue till the arrest of key accused. Meanwhile, cops also carried out raids at the possible hideouts of Qari manzoor Ganie, Immam of Bunastan Masjid, Kishtwar, who had yesterday given slip to police during a raid at his residence. His two associates -- Abdul Qayoom Baghwan and Saif - ud-Din Baghwan were arrested and booked under PSA and sent to Kot-Bhalwal jail, Jammu. However strict curfew remained in force in the District on 2nd consecutive day today. A two hour relaxation announced by the administration from4 PM to 6 PM passed off peacefully. The curfew was reimposed after Imam of Jamia Masjid, Kishtwar, Farooq Ahmed Kichloo made a call of shutdown for tomorrow from loudspeakers of the mosque. Kichloo also called for early release of the arrested persons and asked for ending continuous raids at residences of people involved in anti-national protests. "In case anything wrong happens in the district with regard to law and order situation over the arrest of people, the onus will be on police and administration," he said.Additional deployments have been made in the town to keep the situation under control. Around 600 security personnel were said to have arrived in the town. Cops were seen enforcing curfew in Bunastan, Bagwan Mohallah, Umar Mohallah, Sangrabata and other areas here. During curfew relaxation, many people rushed to the market for purchase of various commodities. "Peace should be the priority. Let the administration and police take the right decision for peace. People should cooperate with police and administration to restore peace," said locals. |
