Fed up with shutdown calls, Kashmiris resuming normal life | Valley unrest | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 26: Fed up with nearly three- month long shutdown and violence which has brought normal life to a grinding halt in Kashmir Valley, the people are now defying the separatists' diktats and resuming normal life. According to sources, there were already fissures in the Hurriyat when an all-party Parliamentary delegation visited Valley some time back after the amalgam took a rigid stand and refused to meet it. The decision was not taken well by some senior and moderate leaders of the amalgam and the same was evident from the statement of former chairman of Hurriyat, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat. Prof Bhat on the same day gave a hint that dialogue was to only way to break impasse. It is said that Prof Gani representing the moderate voice in the conglomerate was in favour of dialogue, sources said, adding that they remained tight lipped due to threat of hardliners who are directly linked to Hizbul Mujahideen. Sources said however sharing the people's concern who were fed up with over two month long shutdown and unrest which has hit the economy to a great extent and also the loss suffered by student community due to shutdown as educational institutions remained closed for over two months now with the result students lost a precious period of their academic career, Prof Gani could not resist and narrated his feelings to a private channel in a recent interview, sources said Sources said parents as well as students were themselves perturbed over the role of Hurriyat especially hardliners who have sent their children outside Valley or abroad for higher studies and lucrative jobs were playing with the career of thousands of students. There is simmering resentment among the people. Prof Gani's inner conscience woke up and he again in an interview to another private channel said that boycotting talks was no solution as it was not in any body's interest. The Hurriyat leader was also concerned over increasing hostilities between India and Pakistan saying war except destruction can't solve any issue. Sources said that all moderate leaders in Hurriyat were with Prof Gani and common masses getting a hint defied separatists strike calendar and opened their business establishments soon after authorities announced lifting of curfew. |
