Omar Abdullah's Shahrukh Khan act proves a flop show | SRK is a star, you are not' | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 18: Former J&K Chief Minister and National Conference working president, Omar Abdullah, has failed in his bid to copy Bollywood king Shahrukh Khan, atleast in making tweets while traveling abroad. Omar, who had to wait for two hours to undergo immigration check during his travel to the US, couldn't bear with the security restrictions and immediately took to Twitter to express his dismay. "Another random secondary immigration check upon landing in the US. Thrice in three visits, the randomness is growing tiresome now," Abdullah tweeted on Monday. "I just spent TWO hours in a holding area and this happens EVERY time..." the National Conference leader said. "I'm here to speak at an event organized by NYU but I almost wish I'd stayed at home instead... That's two hours well and truly wasted!!" Abdullah said. Though Omar might have thought that it will fetch him Shahrukh Khan style of publicity and that the US officials would apologize to him, to his shock no such thing happened. In fact some of the trollers on the Twitter accused Omar of trying to fetch "cheap publicity" out of routine affair at international airports. "If you think you will gain SRK kind of publicity, you are wrong. Shahrukh is a star, you are not," posted a troller. Many said Omar deliberately posted the tweet to gain publicity and to keep US authoritative informed that some "National Conference boss is in America and that world should be informed about his movements to be alert." But there was no response from the US authorities as if nothing has happened. "Why should US be on toes to receive him? This is ridiculous," said a senior politician. Earlier this year, Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan was detained at the Los Angeles International Airport by the US immigration department. In a Tweet, Shahrukh said he understood the concerns of security establishments across the world, but pointed out that it "sucks" when such incidents happen frequently. "I fully understand & respect security with the way the world is, but to be detained at US immigration every damn time really sucks," Shahrukh Khan had posted in August. However the US Department of State official had instantly tweeted an apology to the actor saying, "Sorry for the hassle at the airport, Shahrukh Khan. Even American diplomats get pulled for extra screening!" Earlier in 2012, the film star was detained at New York Airport for over two hours by immigration officials after arriving from India --- in a private plane with Nita Ambani -- to address students at Yale University. While Nita, wife of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, and the rest of their group were cleared immediately, Shahrukh Khan was stopped and was given immigration clearance only after about two hours. He was also detained at the Newark airport in New Jersey in 2009. Though Omar tried to compare himself with Shahrukh Khan, there was no reaction from the US emigration authorities. Even no tweet either. |
