Separatists in state of shock | Three significant developments in Kashmir in two days | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 19: Three very significant developments took place in Kashmir in just two days and none in the state or elsewhere in the country had ever imagined till the other day that such developments could take place in the Valley which remained in turmoil for more than four months after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani. On November 16, the state government dismissed from service 11 cops. The charge against them was that they didn't offer resistance when the militants snatched weapons from them. More than 37 weapons were snatched by the militants during all these of turmoil in south Kashmir alone. The dismissal of 11 Kashmiri cops was a great and bold step taken by the Mehbooba Mufti Government given the fact that such things are not taken lightly in the Valley in the sense that separatists and the so-called civil society groups make a big issue out of such official actions. And on November 18, two other great developments took place which suggested that the state government had finally decided to act and bring the life in the Valley back on the rail. One was the order that required all the educational institutions to reopen across the Kashmir Valley and it did happen today. All the educational functioned smoothly and there was no problem anywhere in the Valley. Of course, some Talibans did ransack one school in the outskirts of Srinagar. The other was the restoration of internet postpaid mobiles. There had been a complete ban on all kinds of internet and mobile services barring the services provided by BSNL and WiFi since July 8. Not just this, another significant development took place at Sopore, the hotbed of anti-India activities and hometown of Syed Ali Shah Geelani. It was after 18 weeks that the Muslims offered prayers at the Jamia Masjid, Sopore. Hundreds of devotees thronged. There was no protest, no anti-India demonstration, no stone pelting and no waving of Pakistan or ISIS flags. That no untoward incident took place after the Friday prayers spoke for itself. All this shows that the state government has been able to establish its authority and that the people of the Valley have also realized that the goal the separatists was to achieve was an unachievable goal. |
