'No talks with separatists till they fall in line' | Groups visiting Kashmir have no mandate | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 19: The BJP led NDA government has decided not to hold talks with separatists in Kashmir till they fall in the line and agree to hold parleys within the ambit of the Indian constitution. Sources told Early Times that civil society groups which have started visiting Kashmir and are meeting separatists have no mandate and even if they give any recommendations these won't be considered. An insider revealed that All Party Delegation (APD) led by the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh that visited Kashmir in August, 2016, had been authorized by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold talks with the separatists and break the ice. "The separatists closing door on the APD members and refusing to meet them annoyed New Delhi and it was decided on that very day that no talks would be held with the separatists and no more concessions would be given to them," the insider claimed. He said that group led by former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha which held talks with Hurriyat hawk, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, and Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq did convey their concerns to New Delhi but no one paid much heed towards the suggestions put forward by the group. "Instructions are clear that no talks till they (separatists) mend their ways and say goodbye to their handlers sitting in Pakistan and PoK," the insider claimed. He said another civil society group comprising Medha Patkar of Narmada Bachao Andolan, Kavita Krishnan, S.P. Uday Kumar, Laxmi Prem Kumar, Swati, Priyanka, the three independent journalists and I.D. Khujuriya of PIPFD, which is in Kashmir these days too has no mandate. "This group is meeting separatists and others at its own level. The central government has got nothing to do with it. It's unfortunate that everyone is trying to act as a "point man" and notion is being created that negotiations are on. The fact of the matter is that Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government doesn't recognize separatists as representatives of the people and it firmly believes that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India," the insider said. The Kashmir based spokesman of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Khalid Jehangir while talking to Early Times said, " It's is high time for the separatists to realize that civil society groups and retired politicians cannot offer anything. People of Kashmir have realized that Azadi, and Pakistan are nothing but illusions which separatists sell to keep the pot boiling. Kashmir has witnessed enough bloodshed during the past 25-years and the Pak sponsored gun has brought nothing except destruction. Separatists should understand that Indian constitution is supreme and only people running the country can give them some concessions." |
