Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 19: The administration of Jammu University continues to spend 'unaccounted' money on things which are of no use. For example, the varsity has paid over Rs 10 lakh to Jammu Municipal Corporation for an abandoned building, which had been declared 'unsafe' by the JMC. According to sources, around four decades ago, the university made an agreement with the JMC to use their building as a reading hall or an extension of the central library. For this purpose, JU paid Rs 70,000-80,000 per year. "In 1978 the JU signed an agreement with the JMC with regard to the utilization of JMC building at Gummat as an off-site reading hall for the library students," said sources, adding that for last 12 years, the university has abandoned the building but continues to pay the agreed amount. "Till date the university has paid Rs 10 lakh for nothing. In 2004, the use of building was discontinued due to its bad condition," sources said. "Having a capacity for accommodating over 100 students, the library was functional for many decades but was abandoned after the building started crumbling." Sources said that no efforts were made by the varsity administration for resurrection of the dilapidated building and the blame was put on JMC for not maintaining it. |
