After Barve, now Patkar and Kavita | Poking nose in Kashmir | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 19: The problem of India in Kashmir and in Kashmir is that there are mercenaries and agents in Delhi and other parts of the country who do not want peace to return to Kashmir. They want the Kashmir pot to remain boiling so that they mint money and lead a luxurious life at the cost of gullible Kashmiri Muslims. Kashmir has become a money-minting machine for every Tom, Dick and Harry and it is they who have been making mountains out of molehills and describing even normal events in the society as "New Delhi's attack on Kashmiri identity, culture and religion". Only last month, a team of five members led by senior BJP leader and former External affairs Minister Yaswant Sinha visited Kashmir for three days to feel what they called "pain of Kashmir". Other members included Sashoba Varve, Wajahat Habibullah, Kapil Kak and Bharat Bhushan. They submitted their nasty report to the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, only last week, which, fortunately, was dumped. The report had been prepared by Sashoba and others and it had made recommendations which, if accepted, could have accorded a dangerous legitimacy to the cult of gun and cult of separatism based on religion. The dumping of their report was a big slap for them. Now, another team of the so-called Indian Civil Society has reached Kashmir and the team is led by the known supporters of Kashmiri separatists and Maoist terrorists. Two of them are Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar and hardcore Leftist Kavita Krishanan. Like Yaswant Sinha-led team, this so-called Indian Civil Society team has also come to Kashmir for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation there. Yesterday, they met the Bar executive members and listen to their distorted and exaggerated versions. The Bar executive members, as was expected, apprised Patkar and Krishnan about the killing of 97 persons (read mostly stone pelters and seditionists) and blinding of some civilians by the use of pellets. The meeting lasted for four hours. It was a marathon meeting. Patkar and Krishanan were also told that there was no law for detaining or arresting minors under the Public Safety Act (PSA), but many had been detained and lodged in "far off places" and their parents were not being allowed to meet these detained minors. Not just this, these Bar executive members told the so-called civil society members that they were for the separation of Kashmir from India but the state apparatus was using excessive force to kill their movement. "In order to suppress the ongoing uprising, more than 12,000 innocents have been arrested from different parts of Kashmir and put behind bars," the statement issued by Patkar and Krishanan said. It also added that "the team was also informed about how, liberty matters in the courts were protracted and despite getting bail and release orders in habeas corpus pleas, police is dishonouring those orders". Who are these Patkar and Krishnan to poke their dirty nose in the affairs of Kashmir? And how is it that they are allowed by the authorities to play their dirty games? They are only creating problems for the Mehbooba Mufti-led Government. The authorities need to refashion their policy towards the so0called civil society members. For, they are not civil society members; they are the agents of those who want to break India. |
