HC for strengthening efforts to prevent burning of schools in Valley | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 19: The high court today hoped that the state government will strengthen at every level the efforts to ensure that no school building in any manner is attacked or damaged in future. "Institutions of learning supply light and broaden the intellectual horizon of students with whom future development on all fronts is linked. Intellectual excellence and prosperity of the society, state or nation in the absence of institutions of learning will remain a distinct dream," a division bench of justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey said while hearing in a suo-moto PIL. The court also directed government to take stern action against those mysterious persons who were or would be involved in damaging or burning down of schools. "We further make it clear that acts of damaging or burning of schools by mysterious elements will not be tolerated," the bench said. Earlier, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, IGP and director school education apprised the court of the measures taken by the administration to avoid the burning down of schools. Taking a suo-moto cognizance of media reports, the court last week directed the government and police to unmask "mysterious enemies of education" and deal with them with iron hand. The court had also directed to file a comprehensive and consolidated compliance report by or before November 7, 2016. "Education is the main factor for intellectual excellence and prosperity. Imparting education in the centres of learning has no other viable substitute. Imparting education has an effective impact on all round drawing out of the best in the child and man," the court had observed, saying no nation, community or state could afford to shun the path of education or bear the loss of mysterious burning and destroying the school buildings. |
