Azad foils PCC Chief's bid to get his son in Youth Congress National team | | | Early Times Report
srinagar, Dec 4: Despite all out efforts by PCC president G A Mir to get his son nominated in the national team of Youth Congress, Ghulam Nabi Azad foiled his attempt, further straining relations between the two. Rejecting G A Mir's son, the Congress high command has appointed Abid Kashmiri as one of the national secretaries of the Youth Congress national team, which was announced yesterday. The rejection of his son for the post has come as a major jolt to the PCC president, who claims to be very close to Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. According to the sources, G A Mir was lobbying hard for the last two months to get his son adjusted in the national team of Youth Congress and he was confident of the success as some senior Congress leaders in the high command had assured him the same. However, before the final selection of the team, sources said that Ghulam Nabi Azad played a key role in convincing the high command that adjustment of PCC president's son would send wrong signals in the party and more particularly among Youth Congress activists of Jammu and Kashmir. Resentment of the State Youth Congress president Pranav Shagotra against accommodating Mir's son also got conveyed to the high command while PCC senior vice-president Sham Lal Sharma was understood to have supported Abid Kashmiri for the national team, sources divulged. Since G A Mir is well aware of the fact that his son was not accommodated in the national team, sources said that the development is all set to further sour relations between the incumbent PCC president and Ghulam Nabi Azad. Pertinent to mention that Azad has also opposed the attempt of G A Mir to continue as PCC president besides getting party mandate for the Anantnag Lok Sabha by-election. |
