Early Times Report

Rajouri, Dec 9: As guns fell silent along Line of Control in frontier district, over 713 villagers of Nowshera including men, women and children returned to their homes situated in forward areas along line of Control (LoC) today after they had fled due to shelling and firing by Pakistani troops in October-November.
According to official sources, seven hundred and thirteen men, women and children who were camping at relief camps following heavy mortar shelling by the Pakistan army in the months of October & November in Nowshera Sub Division of Rajouri district have returned to their homes today.
"These border souls from 224 families hailing from Makri, Sariya, Khamba, Bhawani, Kalsian etc villages remained in the migrant camps for about 36 days at Nowshera and other places," said a senior civil officer.
Pertinently the heavy mortar shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC) since September 1- November 21, following Surgical Strike on September 29, have forced many border people to leave their homes and hearths.
Two soldiers were killed while three other were injured in Nowshera Sub Division during the frequent ceasefire violations which witnessed heavy shelling and firing. Four civilians sustained injuries and eight houses including a pucca house were partially damaged in the heavy firing and shelling from Pakistan side.
As per reports besides this atleast 1200 bundles of dry grass were destroyed in the fire resulted due to mortar shelling in Deeing,Bhawani, Khamba, Sair and Makri villages.
Meanwhile Mohd Riaz, Tehsildar, Nowshera said that the situation on the Line of Control (LoC) has improved and no firing/shelling has been taken place since November 23.
"The children of the displaced people were facing difficulties to continue their studies, he said, adding, "some students were attending the classes at Nowshera schools as the schools near the LoC were closed and they were facing difficulties to travel daily from their villages to Nowshera."
He added to mitigate the problems being faced by these migrants, civil administration has decided to send back them to their villages. He added, however, every possible arrangement is intact at the migrant camps if any untoward incident takes place on the LoC in the future.
