Arwani gunfight ends, 2 bodies, 3 AK47 rifles recovered

Anantnag, Dec 9: With the killing two LeT Militants, the 40-hour long gunfight between militants and security forces ended on Friday morning in Arwani Bijbehara area of Anantnag district.
According to eyewitness, Security forces during combing operation recovered two charred bodies from the debris near the encounter site.
They also recovered partially damaged 3 AK47 rifles from the residential house in which militants were holed up. A spot visit found security forces razing down the structure by IED's and later with a dozer.
Although, Police said that they had lifted the samples for DNA tests for identification of slain militants but two families in Vessu Qazigund and Qaimoh Kulgam identified the slain militants as Rahil Amin and Majid Zargar.
Both the families received bodies of slain militants from police and held their funeral.
A Police spokesman giving the details related to encounter said that militants were hiding in the house of one Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie sonof Ghulam Qadir Ganie at Hassanpora, Tavila Arwani. As per the information Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie works as an over ground worker (OGW) of militants of LeT outfit and not only harbored militants in his house, but also provided all sort of logistical support to them.
Based on this input, an operation was launched by joint team of Anantnag, Awantipora police along with Army and CRPF. The said house was cordoned off and when the security forces entered into the house for searching, terrorist fired on them. The fire was retaliated and the ensuing gun battle lasted for almost two days.
The operation concluded today when a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPFs quick reaction team (QRT) stormed the house and cleared it. The cover fire to the storming team was given by army troops.
In the search operation, two bodies of the militants and 3AK-Rifles along with other incriminating material has been recovered so far. A fierce gun-battle started on Wednesday afternoon after security forces cordoned off the village where a group of militants had come for a meeting. Reports said that five houses were damaged in encounter.
Reports of clashes were received from various areas of Anantnag, Kulgam and Pulwama district. Clashes erupted soon after the encounter between militants and government forces ended at Hassanpora in Bijbehara district of Anantnag. One civilian died and another was critically injured on Thursday.
