Udhampur: 6 yrs on, no probe in crashing down of stadium's pavilion | Residents suspect contractor-officials' nexus | | Ashwani Sharma Early Times Report
Udhampur, Dec 9: Even after six years, construction is yet to begin on the pavilion of Subash stadium. A local resident Sanjeet Kumar Bavouria told Early Times that tenders were floated for construction of pavilion around nine months ago, but to no avail. He said work on the pavilion actually started in 2011 but a few months later a part of pavilion crashed down due to use of substandard material by the contractor. The Public Works Department immediately stopped the construction work. However, no probe was ordered against the contractor and the officials of the PWD who were looking after it. Later, a local resident filed an RTI (No. 9-8/12164-67, dated 2-11-2016) which revealed that the total cost of work on the pavilion was Rs 496 lakh. The PWD had released only Rs 34.71 lakh. "Where has the rest of the money gone," said a group of residents. They said the PWD is not interested in ordered an investigation against the contractor Ram Lal. Which hints that some murky deal has taken place between the officials and Ram Lal, a resident of Reasi. The residents urged the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Neraj Kumar to order a probe into the pavilion construction scam and take action against the people involved. |
