Srinagar, Dec 9: After five month unrest, the local tour operators on Friday invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kashmir saying if he really loves the valley then he must celebrate Baisakhi with Kashmiri people next year.
"We would like to welcome Modi Ji to celebrate Baisakhi with people of Kashmir next year, if he really loves Kashmir and its people then he will accept our invitation, if he wished he can stay with us at our homes," Mohammad Hanief Shalla a renowned tourism player told 'Early Times'
He also extended his wholehearted invitation to foreign and domestic tourists to visit valley so that they could enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of Kashmir and indispensible hospitality of people of Kashmir.
"We request tourists to visit Kashmir and enjoy its mesmerizing beauty; I would like to say that politics and tourism should not be mixed, there were hundreds of thousands tourists present in Kashmir when 1999 Kargil war began between India and Pakistan, he said, adding tourists who were here during Kargil war did not left the valley and completed their scheduled trip.
He claimed that the tourism industry is the backbone of state economy with over forty lakh people depend on it.
"People whose livelihood depends on this very trade have miserably suffered during five months unrest in Kashmir valley, ponnywalas, shikara wala's, guides, drivers and others associated with tourist trade have witnessed harshest ever period,'' said he.
He claimed that Kashmir valley after 2014 devastating floods witnessed steep decline in tourist trade "people who are associated with this trade were badly affected with floods. Most of them are yet to overcome losses they suffered in floods but it is unfortunate that they again witnessed the same that haunted them in past"
Shalla said that the government without playing any politics should encourage tourists to visit Kashmir and ensure they should not feel away from home.
"We are going to promote Kashmir tourism in other states of India form next month, and hope people desirous to visit Kashmir would arrive here, as winter season is about to begin we request tourists across the globe to come here and enjoy hospitality of people of Kashmir for which they are famous world over," Shalla added.
