| JKNPP bandh call gets no response from Jammu people | | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 17 The people in Jammu today gave a cold shoulder to the one-day bandh call by JKNPP against the state government's decision of sanctioning ex-gratia relief to the family of slain terrorist Burhan Wani's brother, killed in a militancy-related incident in the Valley.
All the shops and business establishments remained open and the traffic also plied normally.
"There was absolutely no impact of Jammu bandh in the region as the shops and other business establishments remained open and the traffic plied normally," a police officer said.
The activists of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) held a march and burned tyres near the Jammu Press Club but the protest was peaceful, the officer said.
Terming the sanctioning of relief to the kin of the Hizbul Mujahideen commander as a betrayal by the PDP-BJP coalition, the JKNPP chairman appealed to the civil society of Jammu to support the bandh.
The state government had announced an ex-gratia for the next of kin of 17 persons, including Wani's brother, who were killed in militancy-related incidents in the Valley, while giving a week's time for filing of any objection before the formal orders are issued. Wani's killing by security forces in an encounter in south Kashmir's Kokernag area on July 8 triggered unrest in the Valley which has left as many as 86 people dead. |
