| Cop solemnizes second marriage without permission | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 27: A cop posted in traffic wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) had allegedly solemnized second marriage that too without seeking any prior permission from the concerned department.
Sources said that the Selection Grade Constable- Mehmood Riaz who was transferred to traffic wing from CID wing of the police department had allegedly solemnized second marriage without seeking any permission from the concerned department. Sources further alleged that the cop in question has managed his posting in the traffic court as his matrimonial dispute is pending in the court of law.
Reply of an RTI in possession of Early Times reads that Selection Grade Constable- Mehmood Riaz transferred to traffic wing from CID department vide PHQ J&K OB no. 1417 of 2015 dated 23-05-2015 and he joined the traffic unit on 5th march of 2016. "During his posting in the unit neither he applied nor obtained permission for second marriage", reads the reply of RTI.
However, the section 22 of Government Employee Conduct Rule 1971 clearly speaks that no Government employee who has a wife living shall contract another marriage without first obtaining the permission of the government, notwithstanding that such subsequent marriage is permissible under the personal law for the time being applicable to him. |
