IT Deptt launches recovery drive against habitual defaulters | Property of businessman in Srinagar seized | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 27: The Income Tax department on Tuesday launched a recovery drive against the habitual defaulters in Srinagar and seized a property of a businessman. Official sources told Early Times that as per the provisions of Income Tax Act, the IT department had issued several notices to the businessman namely Hasid Shah, who is the owner of a shop and a showroom situated at Boulevard Road Srinagar to clear the demand of Rs 19 cr raised by the department. But Shah didn't respond to the notices. On Tuesday, a team of IT department of Srinagar circle visited his business establishments at Boulevard Road and seized the assets as per Income Tax Act. When contacted, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax J&K Circle R N Sahay confirmed that his department has seized the property of a businessman at Srinagar against whose the demand of Rs 19 cr was pending. He said the recovery drive has been launched across the country. "We have already started this drive in J&K, and in this connection an arrest warrant was issued to a businessman in Jammu last month. Similar drives were also being conducted to make recovery from the habitual defaulters", Sahay added. He said that in case of casual approach of the defaulter, the TI department takes such harsh steps by attaching the property of the defaulters. |
