Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 27: To mark 45th anniversary of Chipko movement of Chamoli getting inspiration from Bishnoi sacrifice of over 373 women, children, elders way back in 1730 at Khejarli village of Rajasthan, special women college Chipko Tree Talk was hosted at Raika park during Eco-awareness event, over 100 women students under the guidance of Dr Ashiq Malik participated in tree embracing and familiarity event. Director Ecology, Environment and Remote sensing while elaborating on traditional wisdom shared that roots of many Shivalik Trees, Bushes, Climbers are not only edible but rich source of nutrients and phytochemicals of great health benefits. Roots of trees like Sohanjana ,Semal ,leaves of trees like Curry patta, Moringa, flowers fruits of trees like Kachnar, Pauna, Maulsari, Simbal, Amara, Amla, Harad, Baheda, Parijat, Kadamb are edible and medicinal. Climbers like Tarad,Vidari, Kakodu, Seeyaadu are also cooked as vegetable. Conserving wild plants means securing tomorrow's Biotechnological innovations of crop improvements scientists and crop breeders in the backdrop of climate change. Even Khejdi tree called Jand in Dogri is not only sacred to Lord Rama but have edible pods in Rajasthan, tree stand planted at Arnia and Bagh e Bahu. Trees like Parijat and Kadamb has rich folklore, both connected to Krishna, finds mention in scriptures. |
