Mercury Rises Steeply In Jammu And Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal; Heatwave Likely In Parts | | | Agencies Intense heat has gripped most parts of India. In fact, scorching weather has not even spared parts of Western Himalayas. As a result, heatwave conditions are prevailing over several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh in the month of March.Comes as a shock, isn’t it? However, this is a fact. Most parts of these three hilly states of North India are reeling under temperatures that are reaching 30-degree mark.As per Skymet Weather, heat wave condition is declared over the hilly regions when the maximum temperature is 30°C or beyond. Besides this, the departure from normal should be of 5°C.
Present weather conditions across many stations have met the required criteria. Places such as Bilaspur, Kullu, Sundernagar and Hamirpur are reeling under heat wave conditions. In fact, there are many districts which are not reeling under heatwave but are recording temperatures above normal by 4°C to 8°C that almost amount to heatwave like conditions.
As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these above normal temperatures can be attributed to the prolonged dry spell. Although, many successive Western Disturbances have been approaching but they were travelling in the upper latitudes. Hence, these states failed to record any significant weather activity.
Moreover, the warm front preceding the Western Disturbances is also increasing both the minimum and maximum temperatures. Not only this, we do not foresee any significant relief from the heat as no active Western Disturbance is in the offing. Therefore, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are likely to observe warm weather.
