| Alert police guard foil rifle snatching attempt in south Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 29: Alert police guards foiled a militant attempt to attack and snatch rifles in south Kashmir district of Anantnag, official sources said on Tuesday.
They said that militants attacked police personnel guarding a politician at village Thajiwara in Anantnag district on Monday night. However, alert guard immediately retaliated and foiled the militant attempt. Militants later managed to escape under the cover of darkness, they said, adding that searches were also conducted by the security forces in the area.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman in a tweet said, "Residential guard attacked by terrorists at Thajiwara Anantnag. Alert sentry retaliated the fire. Details being ascertained. @JmuKmrPolice @KashmirPolice".
Militants in the past managed to decamp service weapons of about a dozen police personnel in the Kashmir valley.
However, concerned over the increase in such cases a directive was issued to all police personnel, particularly on guard duty, to avoid using smart phones and chain their weapons with belts. |
