Protected persons accommodated at three Srinagar hotels vulnerable to attack from militants
CCTV set up missing at two hotels
Jehangir Rashid 5/30/2018 10:42:55 AM

SRINAGAR, May 29: With militants stepping up attacks on security personnel guarding the political workers and activists in Kashmir around 50 odd protected persons are vulnerable to attack as the adequate security measures have not been put in place for their safety.

Early Times has learnt from sources that these protected persons lodged at three different hotels in the Kohnakhan area near Dalgate are harried since they can be attacked anytime. If such a thing happens then militants might decamp with around 50 rifles since these protected persons are allotted a Personal Security Officer (PSO) each.

“Protected persons belonging to Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and Peoples Democratic Party (BJP) have been given accommodation at the three hotels located in the Kohnakhan area. The hotels where the protected persons are lodged are Al-Huda hotel, hotel Changa and hotel Changa Palace,” said sources.

Sources said that 12 rooms have been allotted at Al-Huda hotel while as five rooms have been allotted for protected persons at hotel Changa. At the hotel Changa Palace these protected persons have been lodged in eight rooms. Two protected persons are accommodated in a single room at these hotels.

“Security measures are not up to the mark in these hotels and there is easy access to enter these hotels. Close Circuit Television Camera (CCTV) set up was missing in these hotels with the management of Al-Huda hotel establishing this set up just few days back. Given this situation one cannot rule out sabotage at these hotels,” said sources.

Sources said that a wholesale pharmaceutical concern is running its office at hotel Changa Palace and the same is visited by hundreds of persons on a given day. They said that any mischievous person can play sabotage at the hotel adding that who would be held accountable as the CCTV set up is not in place.

“The protected persons would be no less than sitting ducks if any attack is carried out by militants on any of the three hotels. The militants would have a win-win situation as they would be able to target the protected persons. They can easily decamp with the rifles of PSOs of the protected persons and there would be chaos all around,” said sources.

Sources said that some of the BJP leaders based in Srinagar and having their own houses have been given accommodation in the hotels while as those coming from the other districts have been denied the same. They said that denial of accommodation has led to resentment among the party leaders and activists who are without any accommodation.

“Four BJP leaders recently resigned from the party and the basic reason for the same was the denial of accommodation of these leaders. These leaders could not bribe the party leader entrusted with the responsibility of allotting accommodation to the party cadre. Some of the party leaders and activists are enjoying like anything while as most of them have been left to feel the heat,” said sources.
