Development yet to reach Langate villages | MLA busy with pursuing separatist agenda | |
Mohammad Sarfaraz Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 29: As compared to other constituencies of Kashmir valley, there are dozens of villages in Langate constituency in north Kashmir where development is yet to reach. There are scores of villages in Langate constituency like Jehama, Teernah, Kasloo, Deedarpora, Renan, Shanoo, Yahama, Kralgund, Harwath, Bichwari, Galoora and Kultoora which are poorly developed. "Macadamized roads, few water connections and electricity do not mean development. There are more important issues like education, accountability in health sectors, corruption-free offices that also form part of development," sources told Early Times. They said the new type public health centers (NTPHCs) were built in some villages, but either the staff remains absent or there is a dearth of staff in some of the hospitals in the Langate constituency. "Most of the government schools are facing shortage of students but surplus teaching staff due to which many middle schools have shortage of staff and students are suffering," the sources said, adding that most of the employees of Education department are on deployment in Langate. The sources said that MLA of Langate seldom spends time in the constituency. Irony is that the centrally sponsored scheme MGNREGA was not implemented properly in their area, said the sources. "It seems that the MLA has not done anything in terms of development for the area. The people are deprived of the basic amenities like food grains, electricity, essential commodities, while the condition of the roads is pathetic," said the sources. They said that it is quite apparent that the legislator is more interested in street protests that highlighting the grave issues of his constituency. "Many rural areas of our constituency lack development. Let the MLA make a visit so that problems could be addressed well in time," said a local resident. On May 14, the Annual Plan outlay of Rs 213.57 crore was approved by the District Development Board for Kupwara for the current financial year that includes Rs 1309.71 lakh for regular schemes, Rs 2254.29 lakh as loan, Rs 16394.89 lakh as Central share and Rs 1348.68 lakh as State share. Sources added that almost Rs 213 crore have been approved by the DDB and there would be a great share for Langate constituency and many ongoing projects are still incomplete from past several years and centrally sponsored schemes should be implemented at the earliest for the benefit of poor masses.
