Why Petrol, Diesel out of GST, questions MPEJ | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 29: The Movement for Peace, Equality & Justice (MPEJ) today lambasted Union Government over unabated hike in petrol and diesel prices. According to press release, the MPEJ members said that at present the central Excise Duty on Petroleum products is applicable at the rate of 23% and vat applicable is 34% totaling 57% tax axe on general consumers. "If these products e.g. Petrol & Diesel are brought under GST where highest Tax slab is 28% only, the prices of petrol and diesel will come down to the extent of 50%. Who will be benefitted with this", they questioned and added that the bus fares and other goods carriages will come down drastically. They said that the prices of essential commodities will come down considerably giving biggest ever relief to the middle class in general & below poverty line (BPL) people in particular. Rao said that exclusion of petroleum products from GST has to benefit the big fish in the country and in that case every citizen is bound to believe that GST is anti-poor & pro-capitalists. |
