GMCH conducts 3 day initial trauma management course

JAMMU, Sept 15: The Government Medical College, Jammu conducted three days initial trauma management course.
The ITM Course was started from September 13 and concluded on September 15. The objective of the course is to train the Post Graduate students, department of Surgery, Orthopaedics and Anaesthesia about the management of trauma in emergency. Trauma especially road traffic accidents is one of the most common cause of death in India mostly affecting the young population between 15 - 35 years of age. As per crime record bureau (NCRB) about 1 lakh 50 thousand death occur every year in India due to road traffic accidents.
The GMC Jammu receives large number of patients related to road traffic accidents on a daily a basis.
During this course 20 PG students from department of Surgery, Orthopaedics and Anaesthesia were trained to manage trauma in emergency and they also prepared the hospital disaster management plan both for GMC Jammu and SMGH. The course was accredited for twelve credit hours by the J&K Medical council.
Principal GMC, Jammu interacted with the trainees during the valedictory session and expressed her happiness on the outcome of the course. She distributed the certificates of participation among the participants and trainers.
Dr. Anita Vig, Dr. Bias Dev and Dr. Shurti Gupta were the trainers for the course and who were assisted by Dr. Khurshid Iqbal from the ICRC.
