Early Times Report

RAMBAN, Sept 15: The people of flood affected areas of district Ramban have been awaiting restoration of the road and footpaths in different areas across the district Ramban for the last over four years but the concern authorities is doing nothing in this regard. One such glaring example of Ladyal area of Batote tehsil in district Ramban in which 300 souls alongwith other passerby waiting for the repairing of damaged footpaths and foot bridges.
Ladyal mohalla ward no 7 of Municipal Committee Batote witnessed one of the biggest natural disasters in history when it was hit by heavy rainfall and flash flood. In July 2014, after heavy rainfall, there was a flash flood in which many people lost their houses besides damages of public utilities.
Pertinent to mention here that the time of disaster administration had assured the flood victims for providing them helps for their rehabilitation under PMAY and other schemes besides restoring public utilities on priority.
Despite residents of the area many times approached the public representative, district administration besides other concern authorities but nothing has been done so far from any side.
Sajad a local said that during the 2014 flood nearly three hundred residents suffered major losses in the floods. In this case, the apathy of the government added to the woes of people who have spent savings accumulated over decades to rebuild their lives after the floods and many are still pursuing battles to seek their dues for their rehabilitation and restoration of utilities in the areas.
On the other side of the mohalla, the only road connecting to education institute and Masjid with mohalla and its condition speaks volumes about the poor restoration work carried out by the administration. Because of non-availability of street lights and bridge over the nullah occurred in mohalla because of its school going children and aged Namazis are facing a lot of hardships especially in rainy days and odd hours.
