Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 15: By announcing four-phased Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections, Narinder Modi led NDA government at the Centre has given first jolt to two Kashmir centric parties PDP and National Conference.
Centre has given a clear message to these parties that Union Government is not going to succumb to any pressure tactics of Kashmir centric parties which they have been doing since 1947.
Credible sources said that central leadership was annoyed over pro-separatist line being toed by PDP and NC just to keep anti-national elements in good humour. It was only after PDP and NC announced to boycott these elections by attaching issue of Article 35-A with urban bodies polls, Centre had decided to conduct elections at any cost.
Credible sources said that on Friday Chief Secretary B.V.R. Subrahmanyam along with Chief Electoral Officer (CE), J&K, Shalin Kabra were at Delhi to discuss all issues with Central government. During the meeting, Centre has made it clear to both the officers that elections would be held at any cost.
Credible sources said that Central government has taken serious note of the boycott call given by PDP and NC. It is observed at the Delhi that boycott class has been given not only to please separatist leaders but also to dishonour and disrespect statement of Prime Minister Narender Modi, who had announced during Independence Day speech this year that ULB and Panchayat elections would be held in J&K.
Credible sources said that there was impression among Union Government that boycott call was given at the behest of separatist and militants groups to dishonour Prime Minister's commitment.
As reported earlier, Chief Secretary had gone to New Delhi to brief central government about preparations and steps taken so far for the smooth conduct of these polls.National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have already announced boycott of these polls.
The Congress has also said that currently, the ground situation in the Valley is not conducive for holding these polls.
