SHO hits 'jackpot' by striking deal with drug dealers
9/15/2018 10:55:05 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 15: A Station House Officer (SHO) posted in Jammu-Kathua-Samba (JKS) Range has cracked a 'jackpot' by earning a huge amount as graft in one day for bailing out two groups involved in different cases of narcotics smuggling.
The SHO took his "fee" in two installments from different parties while his seniors in the department were caught unaware of his 'deeds'.
Sources informed Early Times that the SHO caught hold of a truck from Kashmir carrying fresh fruits at a check post. However, on searching the vehicle it was found that a consignment of bhukki (poppy husk) was concealed in it for supplying the same to drug dealers.
"The truck was seized immediately and brought to the police station. Following the seizure, the owner of the truck arrived at the police station. He informed that the driver was transporting the narcotics on his own and he has nothing to do with anything than the fresh fruits loaded in the vehicle," said sources.
"The truck owner wanted to off load his shipment of fresh fruits and for the purpose he struck a deal with the SHO. Under the deal, the truck owner was asked to pay a certain amount to which he gave his consent. After receiving the cash through one of his close associates, the SHO allowed the off loading of the fresh fruits from the seized truck. The fruits were then loaded in another truck," added sources. The seized truck was shown to be empty and nothing was loaded in it by the SHO while making entry in the official police record, said sources, adding that if the fruits were not allowed to be off loaded from the seized truck then the trader would have incurred huge losses. Sources further said that after few hours another case of narcotics smuggling came knocking the doors of the SHO wherein the police officer apprehended three persons with a consignment of heroin but soon after the detention of the smugglers was made, a politician of the area approached the SHO with a request to find out an escape route for the smugglers. "After the politician's recommendation, the SHO first scaled down the amount of heroin recovered and then registered the case against only one person out of three apprehended. It was shown in the official record that though three persons were caught, two of them had no role in the case following which they were released," said sources.
"The SHO received a huge amount in lieu of releasing the two persons. In this way, the SHO was able to hit a jackpot in one day without any fuss. He not only made quick bucks but cleverly showed the seizure of drugs and arrests made in this regard to present a picture of his honesty and dedication in front of his seniors," added sources.
