| PHE daily wagers protest, block road at Mendhar | | |  Early Times Report
MENDHAR, Sept 15: The daily wagers and community participation (CP) workers of PHE Department held protest demonstration and blocked Mendhar- Jammu road at Main Chowk today.
A large number of PHE daily wagers and CP workers Led by Zulfkar Ahmed Khan earlier assembled at their Sub Division office and held demonstration. They were shouting slogans against Gov't and Chief Engineer PHE Jammu and other officers. They were also demanding their regularization and release of their pending wages. The agitating employees then took out protest march and moved towards Mendhar Jammu Road. They raised barricades and then sat on dharna on the highway at around 1 pm disrupting movement of traffic on this busy road near main chowk. A large number of Tata sumo and buses and other vehicles remained stranded on the road for some time.
Later, with the intervention of local police, the blockade was removed and traffic restored on the road The workers alleged that their repeated requests have always been turned down by the senior officers and they were being exploited. They are being made to work without wages. |
